Pursuing A Scholarship

1. How would receiving the scholarship be transformational in your life, and why are you deserving of a scholarship?

Receiving a scholarship would be transformational to my life because it would allow me to keep attending this school. I'm an out-of-state student, so money is a current issue for my family. While we have enough money for me to attend college next year, I need to do my part and help contribute to my educational goals. And with my brother going into college in two years, my parents want to give him the opportunity to go to the college of his choice even if it includes going out of state as well. Coming to Colorado State University was the best decision I ever made for myself, and I really want to finish my degree here. I believe

Growing up I was always quiet, and never really built the courage to talk to people. I didn't have many friends, and the friends I did have I had trouble opening up to. I was always afraid of being myself in fear that people might judge me rather than accept me for who I was. After graduating from high school, I knew that I wanted to make a change and be a different person when I got to college. I wanted to be more confident and just be myself, not caring so much about what other people thought of me. About a couple weeks prior to the start of the school year, I received an email about the COB Mentoring Program. It was at that moment I knew this would be my opportunity to set out on a journey to achieving my personal goals. Not only did I believe that the program would help me meet new people, but I knew that it could help me be more of that confident, charismatic person I wanted to become. Because of the COB Mentoring Program I've met so many amazing people that I know I'll stay in touch with even after my college years. I've met my closest friend through the program who is now my roommate. I've had the opportunity to get to know Kayley, my mentor, as a person and build a strong relationship with her through our weekly dinner dates, grocery runs, and football games. Through the program I've learned many valuable tips and tricks that can be used in the business world such as how to interact in group settings, how to be self aware of even the smallest issues impacting our society, how to take a problem and run with it, and how to build a thick skin. All of these things can be very beneficial to me especially when I enter the business world. A lot of what I've been taught in class is that business is a great industry to go into, but they never talk about what the harsh reality of being in business is like. I've learned through the program that having professionalism, confidence, making ethical choices, taking challenges head on, and being able to adapt to change are the keys to success in the business industry. It has helped me prepare for what lies ahead after college, and has also helped me realize how I could potentially change the way business is looked at. Issues like unequal opportunities for women to obtain higher positions in the work force, the negative externalities of a corporation that directly impact our communities, and unequal pay for minority groups can all be resolved, but it starts with us. I personally want to help make that change, and be a role model for future generations who are interested in business. That way we
