Many people have resulted to alcohol in there lifetime. Alcohol has ruined many people's lives from the poor disations they have made while they have been intoxicated. Alcoholism is a huge theme in this book. Everyone is the rez resorts to alcohol when they have a problem. The book The Absolutely true diary of a part-time indian By Sherman Alexie is a Book about a boy named Junior. In Juniors family lives on the rez. There names are Arnold Spirit Sr (dad), Agnes Adams Spirit (mom) Mary Spirit (sister), his grandmother. Juniors best friends name is Rowdy. Rowdy has quite the anger problems and likes to get violent. When Junior decides to go to school off of the rez he meets a lot of new kids at his new school called the Reardan. Junior's grandmother has died because of a drunk driver. She was walking home from a mini powwow at the community center when the driver struck her head on and killed her. As Junior said ¨ My grandmother had never drunk alcohol in her whole life. Not one drop. That's the rarest kind of indian in the world.¨ (158) ¨I know only, like, five Indians in our whole tribe who have never drunk alcohol.¨ (158) As you could see alcohol is a huge problem on the Rez. Only about five people that Junior knows have never drank alcohol in the life time. His grandma was killed by person that made a poor decision on driving home while intoxicated. The grandmother said that ¨ Drinking would shut down my seeing and hearing and my feelings.¨ (158) If drinking does this to peoples minds why would they keep on drinking if they knew what the consequences would be. The Rez should have a program that will show the effects on alcohol when it's in your system and when its not. When Gerald made that mistake driving home he ruined someones life in under 5 seconds. This is why drinking while you attempt to drive home or anywhere else is a horrible idea and could lead up too bad
