Eva Galler In the Holocaust, 6 millions Jews died. Although so many Jews died, but there were also some survivors. 350 thousand Jews escaped from the terrible and ghastly Holocaust.
One of the survivors, Eva Galler, was very smart and lucky. She survived the Holocaust, although her family members all died.
Eva Galler’s Early Life
Eva Galler was born in a little city in Poland named Oleszyce. Her community consisted of 7000 families, half were Jews. She was the oldest child in her family, she had seven siblings. The Jews and non-Jews in her town did not mix socially, but only in business. When she was a kid, the gentile children did not want to associate with her. Also, the Jewish children were not permitted to take part in school plays. The anti-Semitism was really strong. Unlike other girls at that time, she went to high school and she got a job working as a secretary and then advanced to an assistant. For getting a job, she wrote a letter to Stalin because her father was a rich businessman. One Sunday morning in June 1941, she and her family heard gunshots, they ran outside to see what was happening. They saw German motorcycles and soldiers were shooting, this is when their trouble began (Menzer).

She was very glad that she was caught with those people, for she was seized as a Gentile and not as a Jew (Menzer).
Finding Other Survivors
After a few years working at the farm, Eva decided to go to Poland to find her family. She found out her friend was the only other person jumped from the same train. At that time, Eva's friend's fiancé met Eva's future husband (Menzer). Most of the survivors were single, people married people even that they did not know each other, just to have a family. After 9 years, Eva and her husband Henry moved to the United States.
