The theory of evolution was formulated by Charles Darwin who first formulated his theory in 1859, defined it as the “process by which organisms change over time because of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits. Changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its environment will help it survive and have more offspring.” (Than, 2018) It is natural selection that decides what changes the organism needs so that those changes allow the organism to better adapt to its new environment, it is the biggest evolutionary mechanism. Its purpose is for evolutionary success to promote growing populations of the next generations to come. My position stands with the parents, only because I believe religion and science are held on the same account. Overall, I believe there is a higher power and it creates everything including science, and it allows science to explain the works of genetics, evolution, etc. Although, my belief is my own I understand the concerned parents’ worries, as well as the Board of Education. It is important that the parents realize it is crucial this is taught, and it is essential to their curriculum and that the Board of Education realize that this course is basically manipulating the belief system of these religious beings. In reconciliation, the course will benefit understanding of science, but it will also give the kids their own chance to decipher their outlook on religion and science. Knowing that organisms come from derived ancestors and some organisms share a common ancestor (the most recent ancestral form or species from which two different species evolved) does not or shouldn’t automatically mean it disrupts the truth of the bible by revealing mistruth. For example, we are human, and we have ancestors, great-great grandmothers, great grandmothers and grandmothers. This is a fact based upon evolution through generations, we witness this daily and we never think it is outside of religion that it happened.
