In the United States there has been a debate over whether or not the theory of evolution should be taught in public school science classes. The reason why there is so much debate around this topic is that Evolution is not a proven fact, it is only a theory. A theory is “a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something”(dictionary.com). A “supposition” is not scientific enough to say for certain that something is true; it is merely a hunch. While The theory of evolution is only a hunch it does have a wealth of evidence in its favor, for example, how all the genus homo animals became more and more like humans and less like apps as time passed. Another example is how bacteria can mutate and become resistant to antibiotics and then strive in …show more content…
Another Issue with the theory is that there is an alternate school of thought, creationism. The creationists believe that all things on earth were created by an all powerful being or a god. The creationists point to a specific time in the fossil record were many species seemed to come from nowhere. They also use math to prove that it is improbable that all the mutations that the evolutionists say happened is almost impossible. Creationism is prohibited from being taught in science class by the constitution because it violates separation of church and state. This not only goes against the the church and state separation, but it also makes creationism unscientific because the only way to find out for sure if it's true would be to ask the creator. Since this is not possible there is no way to test the theory of creationism. The creationists argue that since evolution can not be proven or disproven that both theories should be tought. While both sides have their advantages and disadvantages there is not enough evidence supporting the theory of evolution or the theory of creationism to teach either one in public
