Homelessness in Philadelphia Homelessness has become a large problem in the Philadelphia community, and is taking a toll on the city itself. On any given night there are about 650 people sleeping on the streets, in abandoned buildings and in cars. On average about 300 of those people are concentrated to the center city area. That totals to about 5,500 people living in Philadelphia without a home each year. I chose to write about this topic because not one person should be without a home, let alone 650. In this day and age our society is used to having the convenience and comfort of our homes after a long day at work or school.
