Effective communication is the ability to communicate in a way that is quickly and easily understood. Adults working with children must keep this in mind and ensure that they demonstrating behaviour that is expected from them. Absolute clarity must be ensured on the standard of behaviour that is expected from students in the classroom and in school and adults working with children and young people must be strongly aware of what the school rules are and what is expected from the children in order for this to be effectively conveyed to the students. Effective communication plays an important role in developing positive relation with children, young people and adults. When working with children and young people, we need to be aware of the way we behave and express our beliefs as it may have an impact on the children and young people we work with. Every adult will have different attitudes but when working with children and young people, it is important to be aware of what you are saying and how you are acting. Children and young people look up to the adults that work with them, they act as the children’s role models.
The main differences between communicating with adults, children or young people is by using language what they can understand or what is age appropriate. Don’t use language unless you know that the body you are speaking to fully understands what you are saying. With children or young people you will have to communicate to them on a level that they understand. Listening to a child when they are communicating back to you. By listening this will make a child feel valued and heard.
Alison Gopnik states that children understand the adults needs and try to respond of a different way, many time adults don’t understand what children want to say. After I start to work with young children I realize that they understand more than adults believe because children express different emotions verbal and no verbal when their teacher o parents show different emotions. I remember that one day I was worried because my daughter was sick at home, the day the children were more affective with me and gave me kisses and hugs. I never said anything to them, but I think they could recognize my worried and tried to make me feel better.

It is important to keep parents informed of what their children are learning and doing. This requires clear and effective communication from the teacher. As a teacher, there are many things that I can do to ensure that parents are actively involved in what their child is learning, regardless of their language proficiency or culture. The program I intend on implementing would require: parents to read to their children, Q&A session with parents and teachers, and after school involvement from parents. Children whose parents read to them have a higher literacy rate.
3 Explain the main differences between communicating with adults and communicating with children and young people There are differences when communicating with children, as opposed to adults, but we must always remember that we are all individuals. Effective communication involves children being able to understand the language needed to: understand concepts; participate in problem solving and develop ideas and opinions. We need to be able to use language effectively in order to encourage and extend thinking and learning. When communicating with children we need to be clear so they understand what is expected of them, keeping it short and to the point, so they don’t lose interest or concentration.
