Introduction In the article Time To Think from the website Readworks it talks about the argument about, how long the school day should be. Some schools have been arguing weather they should make the school day longer, and or keep it the same. Some are stating in regular school days teachers don’t get enough teaching. However, others are stating that the the long days will get in the way of after school plans or family time.
Sleeping Schools Countless students all over the US struggle to keep their eyes open throughout the day because school classes start too early in the morning. If we were able to give an hour to students in the morning, we would see an increase in their physical mentality, their academic skill level, and an overall happier lifestyle. Many people will argue that starting school too late in the morning will cause after school activities -- such as sports and other clubs -- no time to meet before the night ends. But I must mention that we don’t need to push the start time that much later to see a huge improvement on student’s test scores, overall grades, and a student’s mood. The current school start time is unacceptable when thought about logically, and we must make the changes to have school start at a later time.
Everybody on this planet can agree that sleep is a beautiful thing. Whether your an adult, a baby, a younger, or an older child, it seems pretty clear that everyone of us can agree that we need more sleep throughout the week. Kids should have there schools start at a later time because that means more sleep! Although many of our bodies don't want to fully go to bed early, we still may want to have more time to sleep in the morning. Kids that have activities outside of or after school, get home late enough, along with sometimes loads of homework, and don't get to bed until an unnecessary late time.
The things students are taught will be embedded in their brain longer by having a less period of break. This is significant to parents and children because it shows the effects summer vacations have on students. In an attempted to improve test score schools all over the country have been extending school days. In responds to the extended school days there have been many debates on its doing more harm than good. I feel that extended schools days will have negative effect on students. Although I believe that extending schools day will more of a negative effect on students I realize that some people feel differently.
The student’s math scores increased, while the reading scores showed no signs of decreasing. This is important because it proves the kids are doing better with a four day school week than a five day school week. If all schools switched to a four-day school week then most students would have improved test scores. If Arizona schools switched to a four-day school week then maybe Arizona’s school scores would go up as a state. Kids nowadays lose interest in school on fridays.
Today we are going to talk about whether or not the school day should start later. When you don’t have enough energy for school, you don’t do well. No one necessarily said that it was the student’s fault. Many elementary school students are forced to get up at 5:00 in the morning to get ready! School just starts far too early.
First of all head of schools wouldn’t need to stress about fitting classes in to students tight schedules. Second of all kids could develop different skills with a variety of class options. Therefore
I think there should be four day school weeks because students most likely want more free time out of school. The school days will end at 4:00 or maybe 4:30 pm because regular school days wouldn’t be enough learning time. This way we could have longer class periods and it’ll help because you’ll get the help you need and work will be handed in on time. Every student has missing work, longer school days help you get some of it all in and grades will be up. Plus, maybe students could do a little work on the day that they won’t have school.
These are some reasons why most students do not want to go to school longer. On debate.org there is a poll, this poll is called “Should school days be shorter”. 89% of the students on the poll said yes. 11% of the students on the poll said that the day should be longer.
Many schools are debating whether or not they should cut the hour limit. With that said schools should be shorter. Schools should be shorter for many different reasons. To start with, f schools were to cut the hours of the school day it would save lots of money that goes towards the school. Everyone in America has to go to school at some point some point in their life. Most students in California attend school for 6 hours a day. In Adelanto, CA students learn math, science, language arts, history, PE, and an elective during the time. Some students are struggling academically with this schedule. I believe that students would get a higher chance of success if they have an 8 hour school.
