Introduction I am Georgiana and I am excited to tell you about everything I learned during my observation hours for Education 2130. I learned so much stuff about different levels of students and how different an advanced and an on level classroom is. I learned about testing and teaching strategies that are used in classrooms. I even got to see how educational psychology is applied in the classroom. These are all reasons why my field experience hours have made me very excited to be a middle school teacher one day. Field Experience Site I am logging my field experience hours at South Forsyth Middle school with Ms. Shreier who is a sixth grade math teacher. Being placed in a middle school math program is exactly what I needed and it worked out perfectly for me because I too want to be a middle school math teacher one day. Schreier used a technique that was very similar to scaffolding. Tools for Scaffolding Students in a Complex Learning Environment: What Have We Gained and What Have We Missed states, “The notion of scaffolding is now increasingly being used to describe various forms of support provided by software tools, curricula, and other resources designed to help students learn successfully in a classroom” (Puntambekar, 2005, p. 1) Slavin states, “Scaffolding might include giving students more structure at the beginning of a set of lessons and gradually turning responsibility over to them to operate on their own” (Slavin, 2012, p. 223). I actually got to talk to her and she explained to me her process on it. She gives a worksheet out with five or six problems on it and goes over them very quick and briefly with the class and then has them do a separate worksheet on their own. She told me she likes to teach the material quickly so that they have more time to work through the problems on their own and ask questions to her to really learn
