There’s numerous factors that impact life on Earth, for example an atmosphere. An atmosphere is an envelope of gases surrounding a planet. This is important for current life on Earth. The stability and composition of our atmosphere is also vital for current organisms, for example, mammals, marsupials and so on.
The composition of an atmosphere is the different combinations of elements that make up an atmosphere. There’s several gases that make up the Earth’s atmosphere which includes; oxygen (21%), nitrogen (78%), argon (0.9%), carbon dioxide (0.037%) and others. This combination of gases allows life on Earth to form and survive. For example, oxygen allows organisms to respire and enables fuels to burn (BBC, 2014). Without the different layers …show more content…

The atmosphere is able to be unstable and stable, this can be determined by the appearance of the atmosphere. The stability is usually measured by the vertical motion of the atmosphere. This vertical motion determines the weather and its severity. Air pockets (also known as parcels or packets) is an indicator which suggests if the atmosphere is stable or unstable. Air pockets is a term used for when updrafts and downdrafts come together to make an air pocket (Radford, 2010). The air pockets will be warmer than the surrounding altitudes and therefore less dense and prone to further ascent. When the atmosphere is stable the rising air pockets temperature will drop as the pressure of the atmosphere decreases. The surrounding air won’t decrease as quickly, therefore the air pocket will become colder than the surrounding air. The air pocket will then sink back into its original position, this means the atmosphere is stable. If the surrounding air decreases quicker than the air pocket then the air will continue to rise. Then the atmosphere is said to be unstable (ecoca.ro, n,d).
Air pockets aren’t the only way to tell if the atmosphere is stable, observing the weather is another option. An unstable atmosphere in moist environments can be shown as thunderstorms and cyclones. In drier atmospheres dust storms are formed. However, when the atmosphere is stable fog and drizzle is experienced. The clouds will also be shallow and
