Have you ever wanted to travel to space? Did the financial and ethical implications cross your mind? With any exploratory science, these implications arise. The three most important issues regarding the decision to explore space are as follows: the effect it has on the economy and national relations, the responsibility to protect our environments as well as any environments we discover, and the responsibility to prevent contamination from our planet to others and vice versa. By explaining these three implications, the financial and ethical decisions regarding space exploration in the future can be easily answered.
The first implication is the fate of the U.S. economy: jobs, budgets, and national relations (Source A). One misconception regarding spending taxpayer money on space exploration is that goes into space and stays there (Source H). Contrary to Source H, Source A states that this money comes back all around us. Space exploration creates jobs and salaries involving materials, building, designing, researching, and studying. This is important because if we as humans decide to destroy the environments we discover out of greed, then we should refrain from attempting space exploration. Along with the many ethical implications regarding destroying another planet’s environment, we could wipe out possible medical cures and habitual planets needed for the survival of humans. Historically, humans have not been so environmentally friendly here on Earth, so we must be prepared to ask ourselves if we would be able to follow environmental guidelines regarding extraterrestrial life. Essentially, we must be careful not to take advantage of the power and responsibility space exploration
