Have you ever thought about what true happiness means? Is everyone entitled to happiness, even homosexuals? There are many reasons why we should all be entitled to our own personal happiness, and free marriage is just one of those reasons. Marriage can allow people to be happy, any person. Marriage has been proven to help better the economy. Many people believe that gay marriage goes against the bible, however, biblical ethics don’t always apply to people today; not everyone is involved with a religious organization. Would God really turn away a person just because of their sexual preference? Whether someone is heterosexual or homosexual, a person should be able to marry another person of their choice.

The governor of New York and Council Speaker Christine Quinn said that New York brought in $259 million dollars in the first year of legalizing gay marriage (“Gay Marriage New York Economy”). Marriage in general helps out the economy, by paying for venues, hotels and restaurants (“Economic Benefits of Gay Marriage”). Even if the marriage does not work out, the economy would still be making money because divorces cost money too. Some people don’t think that homosexual marriage goes against the bible. Not everyone in the United States is attached to a religious group. In fact, over 23% of adult Americans are not attached to a religious organization (U.S. Public Becoming Less Religious”). Our world is progressing and as a result, our country is filling up with multiple religions, most of which don’t agree on the same concepts. People think that gay marriage does not help the economy because being married gives a married couple a tax break, which means that the government does not earn as much money through taxes, however that leaves money in their pocket to spend into the economy, and in turn, make their community better. Many people believe that gay marriage is against the bible, but the bible does not have the same impact as it did when it was initially written. In the bible it states, in Exodus 21:7, “ And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do” (“The Holy Bible”) If one was to follow exactly what the bible said, according to this scripture, you would be allowed to sell your daughter to become a servant. In Exodus 31:15, “For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death” (“Exodus 31:14”).
