In light of my qualifications for the Masters Program in Genetic Counseling situated at the Virginia Commonwealth University, it is significant to understand the origins of my interest in the field and the program. Genetics as a whole have proven to be a profound influence on my life until this point, as it has for many others, but the influence has contrasted from others in its inquisitive molding of my mindset and desire to understand how genetics have affected human development. The questions of why people behave, look, feel, or develop in a certain way as opposed to another has consistently proven to be a recurring fascination in my life and through studying genetics the opportunity for finding the answers to such questions was revealed in its entirety. The reason for physical suffering from birth or the physical abilities of an individual surpassing that of the group was shown through their genetic makeup inherited from past genealogical variety and unfathomable possibility, which sparked my interest in the field of genetic research and genetic counseling. …show more content…

By understanding how one’s genetics can affect their future and their progeny, more support towards certain social changes against negative behavioral tendencies and detrimental business ventures can be put into place by having medical science as a sturdy rapport against these threats. Forms of cancer and other birth defects often championed in charity events can be more advertised among the public to better educate the American populace and even spur the minds of specialized physicians to find more effective ways of curing conditions based on the information compiled by genetic
