In a rapidly growing world, science is the answer to many newly developing problems. Science has taken to the world of food to attempt to combat problems that have plagued our food sources, such as pesticides, feeding the growing population, and finding ways to ship the food without spoilage or damage to the food. However, Europe still refuses to use genetically modified crops, claiming that they are poisonous and harmful to those who eat them. However, all soybeans in the US are genetically modified and nearly 71 percent of the corn is also genetically modified. There haven’t been any devastating side effects. There are around 250 million children worldwide that receive illnesses, such as premature blindness, because of a vitamin A deficiency. In 1999, two scientists, Igor Potrykus and Peter Beyer, created a type of rice that was rich in vitamin A. In many parts of the world, rice is a major part of the meal, or the only thing that is eaten at all. By putting the necessary nutrients in the main source of food for these hungry
