I have always been fascinated by mathematics and, having a knack for the subject, I never had any doubt that I would choose mathematics at university. The excitement of solving a particularly tricky problem, or the sudden realisation when a particular thing clicks into place, makes the initial frustration all the more worthwhile. Currently at A2 I am studying: math, further math and physics. Subjects which I chose specifically to maximise my mathematical knowledge I gain as well as fully utilise my mathematical ability. During AS, I decided to study psychology along with my other subjects. I have always had an underlying interest in the human psyche, especially anything related to the way we behave in certain situations. I also wanted to pick an essay based subject to balance out the mathematical hat-trick I have gone with. Though the was mainly to satisfy my curiosity, I finished the AS course acquiring a significant amount of knowledge regarding how the human brain works and try incorporate my learnings into my everyday life. There’s the usual seminars, lectures and open days of which I like going to when I’m able. I much-love the activities that involve me getting put out of my comfort zone, forcing me to think in a different way to what I am familiar to. One example is the Year 13 Advanced Problem Solving Course, a course where every session you are given a new set of mathematical problems on a previously picked topic for you to solve.
