An epic hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to endure overwhelming obstacles. In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, three heros named Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules exhibit different traits that affect their journey in a positive or negative way. Perseus receives supernatural help, Theseus displays incredible strength, and Hercules has a fatal flaw that will end tragically, these qualities are what classify each as an epic hero.
In the movie Hercules tries to do good deeds to be a god like his family and to be with them on Mount Olympus and in the myth Hercules tries to do 10 tasks to appease Hera, so she can leave him alone. Even though both the movie and the myth is about Hercules; he is a different type of hero archetype for different scenarios. For the movie and the myth I am going to write about what kind of hero archetype Hercules is for each of them. For the myth Hercules Archetype is a Seeker.
In the Mythology book written by Edith Hamilton describes many stories about Mythology. One of the Stories called “The Adventures of Odysseus” later describes that Odysseus Comes back home but a goddess named Athena turns him into a older looking man because it would be dangerous for him to back home looking like he actually looks. His wife Penelope and his son Telemachus have been waiting for him to get back from the Trojan war for ten years. When the war was over he left back over sea to go back home. He gets in a lot of predicaments and end up not coming home for another ten years after the war ended.
Definition: A Greek hero is a person, usually a demigod, who has an unusual birth, when they reach adulthood claim a birthright, faces a great trial, defeats monsters, journeys to the underworld, becomes a king, and has lost the favor of their people or the gods. These make hercules very different in the myth and in the movie. This is pooling together and comparing the differences between two different types of hercules stories with each other. Although some may downplay these feats, they are very important and extreme. First of all, Hercules defeated the mighty Hydra,

(Damian Lowring). By establishing Hercules divine parentage and incredible strength, the myth highlights the hero's unique place in the pantheon of Greek mythology. Unlike other heroes who relied solely on their mortal abilities, Hercules was born with a special connection to the gods, which helped to explain his incredible strength and abilities. However, this divine heritage also made Hercules a complex and conflicted figure, as he struggled to come to terms with his mortal limitations and the challenges of life on earth. By exploring the many facets of his origins, we can gain a deeper understanding of what makes Hercules such a compelling and enduring figure in Western culture.
In this analysis my main focus would be: why Hercules was famous in Greek Myth? , how did he impact the world and its society? and what lessons can be learnt from him? Hercules, the son of Zeus, was very famous in Greek mythology because he slayed the unbeatable nine headed hydra and the famous Nemean lion. When he was a kid he strangled and killed two venomous snakes with his bare hands and also he was the only warrior in Greek myth who was half god and half human.
In “Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes”, Edith Hamilton makes a good assertion when describing how myths were like an early science for the Greeks. Mythology was the Greeks first attempt in trying to explain what they saw around them. Just like a child, the imagination of a human being does not use logic or reasoning for justifying something. Whilst we mature, we begin to question everything: Why?
Hercules The myth of Hercules is a classic tale of a hero's journey. Hercules goes through many trials throughout his life that shows how much of a hero he is. The Greek myth of Hercules reveals that a hero to the ancient Greeks must have bravery, determination, and tragedy. Hercules' bravery was evident in his twelve labors, which he completed as punishment for killing his wife and children in a fit of madness.
These tasks took Hercules years to complete, yet he kept to them, to pay part of his life for his lost family. To add, The Ancient Greeks valued the trait of inner drive that Hercules possessed because it showed people that while Hercules may be stronger than them they could still have the same inner strength that he had. His story also shows that no matter how many times Hercules messed up, he would go back and try to fix it. After doing this same thing for years, only when he died, he would finally win over Hera’s kindness. This story for the Ancient Greeks was a very positive driver for them to be good to each other and hold themselves accountable for their
The struggles Hercules faced in Greek mythology played a significant role in the way Ancient Greeks viewed heroism by demonstrating the importance of perseverance, the ability to overcome adversity, and selflessness. The Greek Myth of demigod Hercules is a prime example of a hero whose theme in his myth is overcoming struggles. Ancient Greeks knew Hercules well for his divine strength and outstanding courage. However, even with all the characteristics of heroism he possessed, he grew up with a good deal of childhood trauma. Hera, his stepmother, was extremely jealous of Hercules’ strength at a young age, which turned to extreme jealousy that influences how he grew up.
Fighting impossible monsters and completing tasks that look impossible proves hard work and determination, Hercules never stopped fighting. He can be inspiring to people who feel overwhelmed and faced with difficult tasks and doubt themselves, Hercules was not any different and fought for what he believed in and won. Mark states in the article, “He remains a hero anyone can relate to, precisely because his life was so far from perfect, and his character was less than ideal.” Making this hero relatable and inspiring is truly what kept him a
