There is no storage of amazement when it comes to ancient civilizations. Researchers and scientist discover new information and artifacts every day across the world that alter the impressions we had of the ancient beings of our world. One of the most prominent examples would be their architecture. What amazing craftsmen’s and engineers would have existed for them to create buildings that still hold influence over modern architects thousands of years later. This essay will analyze the Greek Parthenon and The Roman Pantheon in order to compare and contrast the two temples and what purpose they served for their culture.

Starting with the Greek Parthenon, the temple was built in Athens between 447-432 B.C at the peak of the Athenian Empire. Recuperating from the Peloponnesian war, the Athenian people wanted to show their confidence and power despite losing the war. They even used the funds of the league put in place during the war to construct the temple. The temple was part of a complex on Agrippan land that consisted of a bathhouse and another temple dedicated to the Roman god of freshwater and sea, Neptune. It is believed that Emperor Hadrian who is known as one of “The Five Good Emperors” and ruled from 17-38A.D. The temple is circular with a portico that as large granite Corinthian columns.
