The career I want to pursue is a High school Chorus teacher. Teacher Cadets and Concert Choir here at Rock Hill High confirmed my decision to become a chorus teacher because of the love I have for music and teaching other individuals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that, high school teachers are significant because they prepare students for life after graduation by teaching lessons and skills they will need in college or the job market. Although, teaching is a profession that has good and bad benefits and requires a substantial education, teachers get the opportunity to inspire and help individuals achieve their aspirations.

Generally, High school teachers teach from 9th grade to 12th grade. (High School Teachers). Mr. Hall, my current chorus teacher, teaches a 9th grade class and an upperclassmen class. Therefore, a teacher who specializes in music would teach more than one grade level. Undoubtedly, High school teachers will work together with other teachers in the school, whether or not they specialize in the same subject as they do or not. They need to work together to make lesson plans and keep an eye out on student behavior. With hard work, a teacher can earn their Master’s degree and then a PhD in their field. For Music Education, for the potential to study to Master’s, one must submit an acceptable score on the verbal and quantitative sections of the General Test of the Graduate Record Exam, the Millers Analogy Test or the PRAXIS 2 Exam in music education; taking the entrance diagnostics examinations in music theory and music history; show evidence of keyboard proficiency; perform an entrance audition on the major instrument and successfully complete a writing sample, as directed to the Graduate Program Advisor.
