Meet my Jazz band. This is a picture of us in New Orleans my junior year during spring break to play Jazz. I decided upon this picture because this band has had such a profound impact on how I frame my future. My connection with music through the piano has been fostered ever since I could reach those shiny black and white collection of keys. Starting at the age of four, playing the classical music of Mozart and Bach was what my musical background was founded upon, with tangible medals and accomplishments as achievements.
For many years I have been known for being a very talented athlete. But what many people do not know is that I was once in the Elba Marching band. Being in the band has taught me a lot of things, like reading music, discipline and organization. The most interesting thing about the band was that we had to learn how to read music. At first this was a challenge for me, but I soon got the hang of it.
My background is firmly concreted in the band community. I had no idea that joining the band as a tenor saxophone player in sixth grade would have such a remarkable effect on me. My teachers and I have noticed my growth, driven by my dedication to what I love. I have worked hard within my supportive band association to achieve my goals. Of my ultimate goals was to make one of the most exclusive bands in Nebraska.
Band directors not only teach music, but teach important life lessons that build character such as discipline, dedication, focus, unity, responsibility, and citizenship (Bergseth1). Each are vital to every minute of practice
When I ended my sophomore year, I felt as if I was on top of the world. My grades were top tier, I had a successful soccer season, and I had just been assigned the drum major position in my school’s marching band. However about halfway through the following summer, I was diagnosed with depression. Instead of trying to fight through my condition, I allowed myself to slink deeper and deeper into an abyss. I knew that in my tenure as drum major, I would need to have a stable mind in order to be effective and have a possible impact on the band
Band and Choir can be related to the arts. Using your imagination and hearing the chords can create a picture in your head. Students will learn teamwork, you need to be able to listen around you for other students so you can blend to make one voice or one tone. Students will have a better knowledge of self-confidence.
Think about it, a person who is in a band class, or any musical class for that matter, usually has high grades and is good at
I plan on becoming a music educator as my career and I feel that this is the best step to make my dream come true. With this step I would not only try my hardest to be the best I can be but I would strive to push everyone
Kaitlyn Hatchett Mr. Bergmann Senior English P5 28 August 2015 The Benefits of Participating in High School Band High school band is often looked upon as an activity where a bunch of nerds get in big, bulky, sweaty uniforms and walk around the football field during halftime all the while playing music that they have memorized. Although this is 99.9% true, marching band is much more than that and if you think about what was just stated, that takes a lot of time, effort, and dedication. Marching band provides students with life lessons and skills that can never be forgotten. There are some major “plus factors” of being a part of a high school band such as: students get to be around other students that they normally would not associate with,
Joining band had an immense and almost immediate impact on my life. Before being in band I had never had a talent that I felt completely confident in. I enjoyed practicing and spent many hours trying to improve my musical ability. In
The career I want to pursue is a High school Chorus teacher. Teacher Cadets and Concert Choir here at Rock Hill High confirmed my decision to become a chorus teacher because of the love I have for music and teaching other individuals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that, high school teachers are significant because they prepare students for life after graduation by teaching lessons and skills they will need in college or the job market. (High School Teachers). Although, teaching is a profession that has good and bad benefits and requires a substantial education, teachers get the opportunity to inspire and help individuals achieve their aspirations.
It was New Year 's Eve the year of 2007, I had just turned 9 years old and little did I know my life was about to change forever. My parents took my sister and I on the Queen Mary 2, a cruise ship, to celebrate the holiday season. My family and I went to watch the musical playing at the cruise 's theater, Beatlemania, which is a musical focusing on the music of The Beatles and as a 9 year old boy I was completely unaware the impact this band had left in the world. As I began listening to the music all of a sudden I found myself immersed in all the rhythms and harmonies. The feeling I felt listening to them play couldn 't be compared to anything in the world
Music is for everyone and no one should feel like they can’t compose or play music or be satisfactory at it all it takes is practice. Music has opened up so many opportunities for me and other kids like me. I started playing saxophone in middle school and if I didn’t I would not have the same opportunities and ideas that I have now. Being in a concert band has given me the freedom to do things I wouldn’t have ever dreamed of before that. Everyone should take a chance and try out an instrument or a choir for at least a semester when they are in school, they may end up liking it more than they ever thought possible.
Band doesn't have to be during school. Often in elementary schools, band takes place before or after school because the schedule isn't divided into class periods. If that doesn't, work we can always fit it in with ninth period. Band doesn’t have to be over thought, all you need are stands, instruments, music, a conductor, and people willing to
I have learned how to read musical pieces, how to play different piano-like instruments, and how to better organize my thoughts and critical thinking. I am a sophomore in high school and have been for a while now. That makes the experience of me being in band a time period of one to two years. Band has changed me for the better, whether it be me learning how to navigate myself through life or music, it has been there for me for a long time now. Without band and music, I do not know who I would be.
