An individual who I think made one of the biggest impacts on education is Horace Mann. he improved the quality of education, fought against unsafe and unsanitary schools, increased teacher salaries, made school terms longer, and to make better teachers he established the first public normal school. His leadership in the common school movement is his biggest contribution to education. The reason why is this movement helped establish free, publicly supported schools for all Americans, which gave the poor an opportunity to get an education (something he struggled with as a child).
