Early sexologists and psychologists were pioneers in the field of analyzing the erotic life, whose work among other things, made three main contributions that still shape a modern understanding of the erotic. The first of them being the claim that sexuality is innate and “essentially a matter of biology and physiology” (Seidman 3). In effect, making it an unquestionable truth, apart of the body as much as a limb or internal organ and above social critique as it was placed as a naturalized truth.
