Those ten standards are as follows. 1. Having a system in place for monitoring and evaluating the procedures, 2. Quality control, 3. Proficiency testing, 4.
Essential characteristics of the principal’s role have been identified by groups such as the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, and the Educational Leadership Constituent Council. Standards from both these organizations require that a principal have a vision of learning, advocate for students, collaborate with teachers and the community, provide a safe environment, act with integrity, and understand the social and political confines in which we live. As noted by Sergiovanni in The Principalship, “For Parochial school principals, the religious dimension must be added to any array of roles and responsibilities that define the principalship.” (2015, p. 43)
They want to work to give the students a place to dream and gain skills to be able accomplish those dreams. The Principal believes that the students will learn and accomplish their dreams if they have engaging lessons. There are other factors that can contribute to how the students learn. The school strives
Core Values and Ethical Principles The six core values recognized by the NASW Code of Ethics are: service, social justice, dignity and worth of person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (NASW, 2008). These values are defined and expanded upon, and are then listed as ethical principles. Several of these principles apply to this case.
In discussing the evolving role of the principal with my assistant principal Kelly Romasco, I learned that data is one of the most important tools that the administration can use. When I asked her in what way the focus has changed the way she works with teachers, I expected her to talk about student data and achievement. Instead she talked about how she uses data on the teachers, especially with their previous “walk-throughs” and observations. She explained that she was as interested in the growth of the teachers as she was with the achievement of the students. This shocked me because when I think of data in education, I immediately think of test scores.
The second domain in the Florida Principals Leadership Standards is composed of three different standards. The first of these is Instructional Plan Implementation and is about how an effective leader must collaborate to develop and implement an effective instructional framework that aligns with the required standards and meets his/her students’ needs (“The Florida Principal,” n.d.). Due to the variety in options that are available to align instruction to a pupil, given that the instruction will be adjusted to his/her needs, I feel that the situational leadership approach will be able to be implemented in this situation to create better results as “different situations demand different kinds of leadership (Northouse, P., 2016). The different leadership styles that make up the Situational approach can be tied to this standard by connecting the necessary leadership style with the supportive and directive behaviors in the task that is performed. As an instructor, I will spend time in the S1 category of the Situational Leadership Model as I make use of a “common language of instruction”, spend time between the S1 and S2 categories by “communicate the relationships among academic standards” and by being engaged “in data analysis for instructional planning and improvement”.
Harpo Allen Middle School Scenario Reflection 1. Describe some approaches that could be used to establish a culture of high expectations for students and staff performances at Harpo Allen Middle School. • First, as a new principal, you will need to acquire an understanding of and appreciation for the culture of the school, then, use your leadership style (such as being a team leader) in order to gain the trust and respect of the staff and students. • Conduct a school climate survey of faculty, parents, and students to gauge how much of the learning process I taking place and what measures need to be incorporated insure that high quality teaching/learning is taking place for the entire school. • Create PLCs to promote high expectations among
The text states, “The superintendent did have enormous power of initiative in virtually all matters concerning the schools: the appointment of staff, the selection of textbooks, plans and contracts for buildings, the determination of the curriculum, and normal decisions about everyday running of the schools” (159). When examining the formal education of our current educational institutions, it is evident that the power structure lies with superintendents, school boards and principals who share expectations on how classrooms should be run as well as decision making for the betterment of the institution and students. Overall, formal education has evolved and will continue to evolve as educators search for their perception of the “one best system” for their students. Throughout the history of education, power structure and social class matters have influenced how educators implement regulations, interact with community members and fellow educators, but most importantly, the education of students so that they may be instilled with the skills and confidence to further themselves as

An administrator’s job is becoming more complex each year with all the new demands and expectations that are put on the administrators, teachers and students. As a responsible leader, the principal should engage in professional practice by ensuring that he/she is familiar and practices the ISLCC Standards. The administrator must ensure that everyone will work together as a team to promote positive change concerning all the ISLCC Standards. ISLLC standard 6, states the school administrator must understand, respond to, and influence the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
There are six areas in an ethical standard of human service professional. The standards are divided into responsibility and statements within the service. The goals for these standards are four steps. Identify problems, consult, explore options and choose and
Good communication skills, the ability to handle administrative duties and maintaining strong student interactions are the qualities that make a professional assistant principal. Assistant principals assist principals and teachers in developing the academic criteria that propel students to reach their full potential. Assistant principals help teachers create lessons, counsel students in educational matters and uphold the disciplinary operations for a productive school environment. A good assistant principal uses experience and knowledge to counsel students about any personal issues that may be affecting their school performance.
The first standard I try to follow is I will not lie or deceive others. To me, this standard means that I will strive to always be truthful with those around me even if it may hurt their feelings. Along with that, it means that I will not intentionally mislead or deceive those in my life. This standard is generally considered positive as it stands for honesty, trustworthiness, and transparency in relationships and communication. One test that can be applied to this standard is the Golden Rule test.
First one is “everyone must have the freedom to communicate with anyone”, because the most efficient way to deal with numerous problems is to trust people to work out the difficulties directly with each other without having to check for permission. Second principle is “it must be safe for everyone to offer ideas”, Pixar make a concerted effort to make it safe to criticize by showing what they liked and did not like with the explanation why. The third principle is “we must stay close to innovations happening in the academic community” in order to reinforce the mind-set to improve their
Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
