HR Manager Interview

I met with the multi-store HR manager Hurrem Newberry. Mrs. Newberry has been with Macys for the past ten years. She started her career as an associate and work her way up and eventually became manager. I went to the HR department in September to ask if she was willing to have a small interview with me. I explained her that was a St. Mary’s student and had an assignment to interview an HR Manager. She kindly accepted and told me to call her to setup and appointment. Two weeks later I called her and setup an appointment. When I arrived she was very friendly and attentive, she offered me water as we walk into her office. Macys use many social media to reach to people about job openings in their store. They also use websites such as Monster.com, Indeed.com, and CareerBuilder.com to post their job openings. However, most of the applications they receive come from in-store ads located throughout the store. Macy’s conducts test during the application to deduct whether the person applying will meet Macy’s culture. Macy’s during the holydays triples the ads they post to attract seasonal employees. Also Macy’s reach to the seasonal employees that worked in the past. In my opinion, this was clever as I never thought of calling those seasonal employees from past years. That is an easy way to reach people without spending money. Once employees meet the requirements they are contacted by E-mail or phone to setup an interview. Applicants do no go through background checks or drug test, only certain positions requires those tests. Macys supports their employees by training and giving them feedback. Macys motivates each employee to grow their career, they like to advance within Macys. Macys do not cross-train their employees since don’t want to stress their employees.
