I Am FIT Personal Statement

Ever since I was a young girl fashion has always been something that I am drawn to. I have been very fortunate growing up to be able to experience what I have with fashion. I am a strong, passionate, hard working, and determined young woman. I am FIT.

I have always enjoyed art and fashion. I was very fortunate to grow up in the town of Northport, NY. Why? Northport has one of the most elevated and successful high school fashion design programs. I took all three fashion design classes, these classes showed me how to become a fashion illustrator as well as the basics of sewing a garment and reading a patterns. I also have taken the junior evening wear saturday live classes at FIT. I took the New York State art regions with fashion design as my concentration. After I graduated college I decided to attend Nassau Community College with my major in Fashion Design.

I have enjoyed my time at Nassau a lot. The fashion program at Nassau really opened my eyes up to what my capabilities are. At Nassau I’ve learned many useful techniques. I have learned how to drape my own designs. I’ve learned different sewing techniques and how to operate different types of machines. I really took a liking to creating visual …show more content…

I have participated in our fashion innovators club since I was in my first semester. I am also the president of the museum club. By being the president of the museum club, I have had to organize and book field trips and gain approval of trips from our student government. I have also earned the Student Activities Award for my contributions, participation and GPA. I was 1 of eight selected from 30 students to participate in the 2015 design wars at roosevelt field. For this competition I had to create a red carpet gown that could have been worn during the “old holly wood” times, with Audrey Hepburn as my model.
