The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a threat to the United States of America. There have been many lives lost at the hands of ISIS fighters and victimization done to women. Neutralizing the threat is a challenging task but there are different approaches psychological and intelligence are two options to begin with.
To date, ISIL has killed minorities, forced minorities to flee, raped women, and killed American, Japanese and British citizens. In addition to this, one of the shooters from the attack in Paris January 2015 has claimed to be part of ISIS. It was not until recently that al-Qaeda and ISIS split. Al-Qaeda has been a threat to the United States since the 1990’s and after September 11, 2001 al-Qaeda was being targeted by the United States. Any group affiliated with al-Qaeda should always be considered a threat to the United States. The Australian Government has ISIS listed as a terrorist group; “Division 102 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 provides that for an organization to be listed as a terrorist organization, the Attorney-General must be satisfied on reasonable grounds that the organization: is directly or indirectly engaged in, preparing, planning, or assisting in or fostering the doing of a terrorist act (whether or not a terrorist act has occurred or will occur); or advocates the doing of a terrorist act (whether or not a terrorist has occurred or will occur)” (Australian Government). Through constant threats of attacking on United States soil and planning the killing of American citizens overseas they are fulfilling the directly/indirectly stage of the definition.
