The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, formally known as ISIS or ISIL, call themselves just by Islamic State now. Their actions have dominated the news since 2014. The latest news about ISIS claims that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been deathly injured. He is said to have been injured during a US-led airstrike in April. There is no official confirmation yet, but it is believed he just clinically dead. If this is true, this is strong evidence to support the involvement of America in stopping ISIS. They are not Al–Qaeda, they have similar beliefs but they are a different type of organization. ISIS was regarded as just a local threat at first, but ever since ISIS began posting videos online of their brutal massacres of Westerners they have to be regarded as a global threat now. They are a global threat that should be taken seriously because they are different than previous terrorist groups like al-Qaeda, their easy access to appeal to and recruit foreigners. The US should continue the fight to end the ISIS threat.

However, the civil war in Syria was not the only situation ISIS had to their advantage. The Obama administration withdrew from Iraq in December 2011. They did not only take cities in Syria, in Iraq they took over Mosul. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki worsened the situation, allowing ISIS to grow because he allowed the slaughter of peaceful Sunni protesters and did not try to accommodate the Sunni minority. ISIS is a Sunni Muslim group. They played heavily on this situation, and the tension, to recruit more followers
