September 11, 2001, is a date that anyone in America will remember and hear about for a long time. It happens to be one of the dew terrorist attacks in the United States. 2 planes flown into the Twin Towers killing thousands of people and injuring thousands more is not something the human mind can simply "forget" about. Al Queada, a terrorist group founded by Osama bin Laden, wanted to strike fear into the hearts of the American people. To start the government took over security, homeland security tightened up on their policies, the fun of an airport now became the concern of the people's safety, and the time it takes to get through an airport was much longer. "The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a cabinet department of the United States federal government, created in response to the September 11 attacks, and with the primary responsibilities of protecting the territory of the United States from terrorist attacks," (toptenz.net). This quote stands alone in defining the tragic event on the 11th of September. No one person could make a change like this unless it was absolutely necessary. This is more of the national level but in the airports the same thing was also happening. As the TSA was enforcing the new rules of the airport like no weapons of any kind and gaining new technology to help keep the airport safer, people were traveling on planes less and less. After the tragic event, there was a drop in the people willing to ride on a plane for years because of the incident. As time went on and people saw that the airport security was better than before then the trust was coming back. Even though the foreign people of the world still get a side eye, nobody is allowed on a plane unless they have been thoroughly checked by the people and machines set in place to find and examine anything suspicious.
