Is Marijuana Use Safer than Alcohol Use? Most people know what alcohol and marijuana is and will more than likely be exposed to them at least once in their life. For those who don’t, Marijuana is a naturally grown plant called cannabis. There is two different strains of marijuana, Indica and sativa. Cannabis is a schedule I drug. Alcohol, is in beer, wine, and liquor. It comes from fermentation of sugars. Unlike marijuana, alcohol is legal in the United States. These substances are generally used in parties and special occasions for some type of celebration. Marijuana and alcohol gives a different sensation and effects to the user of the substance. Both seen as negative effects on the user but both used so often by Americans. Alcohol is more popular because it is legal in the United states and thought to have less of a negative effect to the user. That gives people a reason to believe that alcohol doesn’t have a noticeable effect on your health. Alcohol damages your liver and can even lead to death if too much is consumed. Alcohol has been accountable for way more deaths than marijuana. This includes includes direct effect from the substance and accidents that occur while intoxicated. Alcohol is more showcased and advertised since it is legal. So kids grow up watching commercials that make alcohol look appealing, so at a young age kids start to try drinking. The more they do it, the more they depend on the substance. A survey showed that 51% of 12 graders, drank alcohol in the past month ( Risk Factors of Teen Alcohol Use, 1) That’s a little more than half of the class. When binge drinking, the alcohol shuts down very important areas of the brain ( Binge Drinking isn’t Worth the Risk, 3) About half motor vehicle accidents are caused from being under the influence while operating a vehicle ( Drunk Driving and Statistical mortality,
