All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury explains that jealousy can cause people to do things that they will regret later on. In the beginning of the story, all of the students were really jealous of Margot’s poem. Sometimes the people that are jealous don’t end up realizing what they did until later. This is the main theme of the short story and will come up a lot as you read through. Even though people don't end up realizing it but jealousy can lead you to do actions that you will end up regretting later on. In the beginning of the story, Margot wrote a wonderful poem about the sun, and shared it to her classmates. But none of Margot’s classmates believed that she wrote it, they all kept on protesting that she didn’t. This shows that all of the kids in Margot’s class were jealous because Margot has seen the sun more than her classmates have, and she was able to write a poem about it. Also, in the middle of the story, Margot was describing to a few classmates what the sun looks like and how she remembers it. Then all of the kids were positive that she was lying, saying stuff like, “you’re lying, you don’t remember!” Margot’s classmates are jealous because they don't remember what the sun …show more content…

For example, one of the other themes is cherishing what you have because it doesn’t last forever. An example of the theme in the short story is when the sun was only out for an hour, so they were cherishing what they had because it wouldn’t last forever. This fits into the theme cherishing what you have because they new that the sun wouldn’t be out for very long. Another example of that theme is when all of the students were peering out through the window waiting for the sun to come out. This goes along with the theme because none of the students wouldn’t want to miss the sun when it came out. In conclusion other than theme jealousy there are more themes to the story than just that
