Section I: Description of Jeffery Dahmer Throughout the life of Jeffery Lionel Dahmer, he went from being an innocent little boy to a well-known serial killer. Born May 21st, 1960, he was known as a happy and energetic boy in his early childhood. He was the first-born son of his parents Joyce and Lionel Dahmer, and they lived in Milwaukee. Still, when Jeffery was two, (Murderous Minds 2019) they moved from Wisconsin to Iowa because his father was offered an opening at Iowa State University to study for his Ph.D. At age four Jeff was diagnosed with pneumonia, an ear infection, and required surgery for a hernia and that’s when changes were seen within him, in a negative light. He was known for being introverted and friendless at school or in social settings. “Dahmer claims that his compulsions toward necrophilia and murder began around the age of 14”. (Biography, 2023) During that time he also started leaning towards the use of alcohol to drown some of his thoughts and his actions. During school, he would fake epileptic seizures and scream at random times. As Jeff aged more his urges also increased and he continued to have his fascination with animals and with the human body. His parents separated before he graduated high school, and his father was awarded custody of his little brother, and everyone left him home alone. He committed his first murder three weeks after graduation and Jeff stated, “Nothing has ever been really normal since then”. His brain was wired in a very different way as most would never turn to the type of violence or have the urges he did. Jeffery was trying to fulfill some loneliness and keep the people with him instead of them leaving even though they were dead. I felt so disguised that he would not just house the organs and bones in acids, but would also chop up his victims and eat them. After watching many different documentaries or series about Jeffery Dahmer before my extensive research, he was just a necrophiliac killer; nothing of what I learned was as detailed as the things I have seen. I was able to see the real crimes Jeff committed through his seventeen murders. What I’ll never understand is that he seemed to be mentally competent and understood all the crimes he committed. He admitted to all of them, so how can someone who is mentally there do things as he did? That is what I find so fascinating about the brain because you can be diagnosed as mentally competent but still have an undiagnosed problem within your
