Judaism and Christianity both have distinctive responses to the issues of peace. In Judaism, the Prophetic Vision of Peace on Earth (PVOPE) explores issues of peace through the belief that humans were created in the “image of God” and should thus, act accordingly. This is evident within the principal teachings of one God, the divinely inspired moral law and the Covenant. Conversely, in Christianity peace is achieved through Jesus commandment of love within the New Testament. This is demonstrated through the principal teachings of the divinity and humanity of Jesus, his death and resurrection, revelation and salvation. Thus, both Christianity and Judaism respond to peace differently to appeal to adherents.

He not only offers peace mention in John 14:27, but ultimately embodies this peace in His ministry, death and resurrection – Ephesians 2:14. The foundation of a Christian’s inner peace is being with peace with God, who is able through the death of Jesus, set believers free from the ‘guilt, penalty and power of sin’. This peace flows from God’s love, Romans 5:1-11 teaches that “Christ died for the ungodly” and so peace is available for everyone. Inner peace is maintained through a continuing close relationship with God and through various other means such as; in 1 John 1:9 teaches that “if we confess our sins, God…will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”, according to this scripture adherents who confess their sins agree with God that they are imperfect and need the grace and mercy of God to be restored with peace. This practice also relates to the Catholic sacrament of confession to a priest on behalf of God. If a believer confesses his or her specific sins to God, he will then be cleansed.
