Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised to legalise marijuana in Canada during the year of 2018. Adults age 18 and older will be able to legally buy and cultivate small amounts of marijuana for personal use. It’s obvious that the government has made a blunder with this decision! Trudeau is failing Canadians with this new pot law! What was going through his head when announcing such ludicrous things?! Clearly, he hasn’t thought about all the negatives of legalising marijuana... Initially, Marijuana is abundantly addictive. People who start smoking this drug often find it grueling to quit. Contradictorily, when people won’t have easy access to weed, they are less likely to purchase it and get high. Especially considering the fact that the Liberals are leaving virtually all questions about regulating pot retailing to the provinces. In Ontario, adults will be allowed to grow no more than 30 grams of marijuana at a time. However, it’s not Trudeau’s decision whether or not the other provinces will allow citizens to grow or carry around more than 30 grams. As I mentioned earlier, there are many negatives to smoking marijuana. Vanessa Markov decided to give up marijuana completely. She states that she couldn’t have made a better decision because she can now focus, listen, get more things done. “My life is so much better now” she said (“Will Legalized Marijuana Lead to More Addictions?”, CBC News). Besides, how is the government going to regulate who grows what, where, when and in what quantity?! To make things more complicated, some marijuana leaves will be legal and some marijuana leaves will be illegal (according to ottawacitizen.com). Do you really think that the police, who barely have the resources to fight drug crime now, will waste their time busting teenagers for possession? Trudeau also stated that the reason why he is legalising marijuana is for medicine purposes. Again, how will he be able to make sure who is using marijuana and for what reason? Harold Albrecht, a Member of the Canadian House of Commons since the year 2006, said he is also against legalizing pot because people use the drug for a very specific reason. He said "You can have a glass a wine, not for the purpose of becoming intoxicated.
