The Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan offers support to those with learning disabilities and ADHD, assisting with increasing independence through education, employment coaching, academic intervention, academic strategies, assessments, and more. They are a chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada, which has chapters throughout Canada. This could lead to confusion as to the direction in which they should work. It appears as though this is a consistent issue for this organization, and is an area in need of significant improvement. Due to the issues I have discovered, I have decided to outline some recommendations to improve the organization’s operations. Increase volunteerism in the organization. By utilizing volunteers, the level of paid employees should decrease. This would therefore decrease the level of expenses for employee salaries. As well, volunteers are more likely to be involved because they relate to the cause, which will only benefit those who rely on the organization’s services. Volunteers can assist with developing fundraising opportunities, spreading awareness of the cause, and reducing employee expenses. Decrease expenses/Increase revenues The biggest expenses listed are employee compensation and professional and consulting fees. These could be reduced through the use of volunteers, and by bringing in more board members and directors who have relevant knowledge and experience with the cause. The LDAS needs to bridge the gap between their revenues and expenses if they want to ensure long-term survival and sustainability of the organization. Again, this could be achieved by fundraising.
