Did you know that the legislative branch of government consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate? Or did you know that the President is the figurehead of the government? In this article, it will teach you about the Legislative and Executive branches of government, along with their checks and balances. The Legislative Branch consists of the Congress. The Congress consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. There is a number of Reps for each state, depending on the number of people living in the state and the size. There is 100 senators per state, meaning 2 per state no matter the size. As stated in the Text, “The role of Congress is to ensure that the will of the people is done”. This means that the state’s representatives takes their state’s ideas to the government. “Congress makes laws, controls federal money, and approves (or denies) the budget submitted by the president.” This means that congress decides how much money to make and what laws to be signed by the president. This branch includes the President, Vice President, and the Cabinet. “The president’s primary role is to act figurehead of the government.” That leader is the president, who is the main person in the government. “The Executive branch is responsible for applying the laws of the land, setting up an operating budget for the country, appointing justices to the Supreme Court, and declaring a state of emergency during disasters, among other tasks.” The laws of the land are laws that are in effect everywhere. Setting up an operating budget is how much money to spend on certain tasks like military. Appointing judges to the court is who goes to the Supreme Court when someone is missing.
