First, I would like to thank you, Dr. Metoyer, for your insight and knowledge you have given to me and the class regarding the leadership role and the role of the APN. This class was very informative and provided pertinent information needed to progress as an FNP. My knowledge and appreciation of the role of an APN have been thoroughly enriched from this leadership course.
Hill (2017), expressed that an individual’s professional identity is characterized by incorporating our personal and professional development. I honestly believed that this course had combined my personal and professional identity through the case studies and knowledge learned to meet MSN program #4. Organizational and systems leadership is essential to possess as we advance through this APN program. This tool will help guide how an APN practice when faced with different dilemmas involving moral and ethical issues. As a leader, the NP need to set a standard on how to address challenging situations and always remember that patient safety comes first. An excellent example of a case study is when the MA was arguing with another staff member and failed to inform the NP of the patient abnormal vital sign. The NP needs to make sure the patient health is not in jeopardy before addressing the MA. Leaders such as the APNs are responsible for ethical leadership and therefore obligated to create an environment that is encouraged to a common goal of a positive work environment that reinforces best outcomes for patients.
