Many know Monroe as a sexual symbol, but is that who she truly is? Marilyn Monroe was an iconic figure in the fifties. She is known for her Platinum Blonde hair and her figure. She became a rising star in magazines, movies, and television. Looking back on her accomplishments, Monroe suffered from severe backlash and lived a troubled childhood. Monroe is an inspiration to many because she faced her struggles as a kid, her failed relationships, and working in the stressful environment that is the film industry. Marilyn’s early struggles that she faced as a foster child made her into the woman everyone knows and loves. One thing Marilyn broke away from was her contract with 20th Century Fox. They were taking advantage of her and not letting her get as much appreciation as she deserved. “Marilyn, at the time, had gone completely rogue, breaking away from her draconian studio contract that let 20th Century Fox make a fortune off her” (2009). In turn, Marilyn was freed from the hands that were constraining her from her full potential. She was finally able to earn credit. More specifically, with her drama with 20th Century Fox, Monroe wasn’t able to take part in better roles. This was only damaging her career. “It had refused to give her better parts, never acknowledging the sheer graft that she had put into acting right from the start. Marilyn always knew what she was worth, and she always knew when she was being used” (2009). Marilyn is a strong woman and can fight for herself, she shows the studio board that nothing can stop her. The toughest battles Marilyn can still fight out and turn herself into an icon for many, although some people may beg to
