I went to an international baccalaureate world school for elementary and middle school, St. Marys. The school is focused on developing well-rounded students who flourish in a creative environment. Their mission is dedicated to create academic excellence through inquiry-based learning. Through their strong critical thinking approach I was able to develop skills to meet the challenges that I face today. From there I attended Mater Dei High School which is one of the largest Private Catholic High Schools on the West Coast. At the core Mater Dei was a place that I could call home. I chose Santa Ana College for the career training and university transfer program. I knew that I wanted to become a firefighter and the school offered an outstanding Fire Technology Program so that became my focus. Keeping in mind that I wanted to transfer to a university, I also ensured that the classes I took would be transferable. Though my three years at the college I completed my basic firefighter training and gained all the necessary requirements to begin applying for firefighter positions in the public service sector. I also completed two Associates degrees: Associates of Science degree in Fire Public Service, Associates of Arts degree with an emphasis in Humanities, Arts, and Communication. I plan to continue my education through professional career development classes, paramedic school, and the Master program in Security and Disaster Management through UAF. All of these classes further my career and aid me in improving my ability to serve the public. Career development classes are classes that I would be able to take through a college, state fire training, or national level training. I plan on taking classes to become a Rescue Technician or specialist in low angle rope rescue operations and rescue operations; as well as work to become a hazmat technician or specialist. I also would be honored to be able to take classes at the National Fire Academy and will apply to better my skills through training they offer. In paramedic school I will learn advance life saving techniques to be able to provide a higher level of care to the public. Lastly, but most important I will finish the Master’s Degree in Security and Disaster Management through UAF. With these educations and through furthered experience in my professional work experience I aspire to become a ranking officer in the fire service and serve nationally as a single resource incident commander on large disasters.
