The World of Meditation & Buddha
Meditation is an ancient tradition practiced by people all around the world. Throughout the years the practice has evolved and grown, but it still has the same purpose, of helping people relax. As people meditate they start to feel balanced. To meditate successfully, one must concentrate. The main goal of meditation is to relieve stress by focusing and concentrating on your mind and breathing, so you feel more relaxed.

Meditation is believed to originate in India as a Hindu tradition, and is thought to be started in 3000 BCE. Thousands of years ago, Zen theology started the practice of meditation. In the article, “Spiritual Healing For You,” it states that meditation has five different categories. The first type is called concentration. To concentrate, you need to focus on an object, or nothingness. The second is called reflective meditation. Reflective meditation is focusing on a question you ask yourself. For example, “What can I do better to improve the way I act towards others?”. The third type is called mindfulness meditation, and during mindfulness meditation, you pay attention to your sphere of influence, or what is going on in your mind. Heart centered meditation is the fourth type, and that is when you let go of all your fears and focus on the love that surrounds you. Finally, there is creative meditation, in which you strengthen the different qualities of your mind. There are more heavy-duty ways to meditate, but most people focus on breathing and stretching. Breathing in and out at a constant pace helps your body balance and concentrate. As you focus on your breathing, your body becomes less tense, and you become less stressed. Dr. C. George Boeree says that most people often do the practice outside, mostly in the quiet places of nature. It is also helpful to do it when you are in the dark, or when there is less light in your face. Buddha spread his teachings and taught people about meditation and nirvana. Buddha achieved enlightenment after training in meditation for six years. He concentrated on his mind, and how he could help the world. He once said, “The mind is everything. What you think you become.” He taught many techniques that help people meditate. According to “The Buddhist Center,” the practices he taught consisted of developing concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and seeing nature in a calm manner. “Once, Buddha was asked, ‘What have you gained from meditation?’, he replied, ‘Nothing! However,’ Buddha said, ‘Let me tell you what I lost: anger, anxiety, depression, insecurity, fear of old age and death.’” (The Quote Pedia). Buddha’s teachings aren't meant to make people feel happier, but they are meant to help people feel less stressed, angry, and depressed. After you meditate, you should feel more relaxed, more balanced, and more at peace with yourself and others.
