6’4”, 315 lbs, Michael Oher, the offensive tackle of the Carolina Panthers, may be one of the most misconstrued players in the NFL. People that have watched The Blind Side might have a general idea of what Michael Oher and his life was like, but there are also many things that people might have misconceived. In the movie, The Blind Side, there are many similar aspects relating to the actual events; however there are also many differences in the characters personalities that were portrayed.
Many things relate similarly in the film to the actual events that occurred. Michael’s father was murdered when Michael was a child. For example, the adoptive family that takes care of Michael in the film was not as supportive in real life. A Washington Post article shows Michael stating that the actual family that adopted him was not as big of a role. Michael explains, “[The Blind Side] which he claims essentially dumbed him down and gave his adoptive family too much credit for his development as a football player”(Bieler). During his life with the family, he did not receive as much help from them as the movie insists. Following the differences, Michael does not believe that the film produced a good picture of his actual personality. Michael says that there are many differences between him and the character that he does not want to get into. An article produced by ESPN states, “Oher didn't want to go into all the differences between him and the movie character, who had a sad look for much of the film, but he doesn't mind joking about them”(Newton).
