If schools were able to monitor students social media accounts it could prevent cyberbullying and suicide. There are multiple reasons people have social media accounts. For example, some people are photographers and they make money by taking pictures and showcasing them. Another reason is to show off their lives to friends and family. Although people might think cyberbullying isn’t a big deal it’s more than just being bullied. When a teen is cyberbullied they can develop anxiety and depression. When someone is depressed they also start to have suicidal thoughts and that is also sometimes a result of cyberbullying. Many might think the teens can stop the cyberbullying by telling their parents but over half of young people don’t tell their parents when it occurs. When teens and adolescents don’t tell anyone it just makes it worse. They don’t have the strength to tell anyone and they just wallow in their pain. If schools were able to monitor students social media accounts the principals and teachers would see what was going on and could contact the parents instead of the child having to have a difficult conversation with their parents. The process of ending cyberbullying would be much faster and more efficient. When no one is monitoring accounts people don’t know what’s going on and they don’t know that there is a problem that needs to be stopped.
