My Experience At Vacation Bible School

As I have participated in my school and community, I have held several leadership positions. One of the most meaningful activities I have been given the pleasure of being a part of is volunteering with my church’s Vacation Bible School. I have served as a youth leader at the camp for three years, and it is one of my favorite weeks of the summer! In order for the camp to run smoothly, there is an abundance of preparation that takes place before the camp. This preparation requires hours of dedication, and it has taught me the importance of staying focused and dedicated. At the beginning of my freshman year, I felt alone, and I scrambled to do my best to connect with those around me and make friends. I was scared of how others viewed me physically and my personality. In retrospect, I was overly-critical of myself. Instead of allowing myself to recuperate from mistakes and view the larger picture of a situation, I denounced myself and didn’t believe I was good enough. I thought I was only worth my mistakes and missed attempts. This thought process was a detrimental pattern. This thinking was my mistake. It was not an overnight switch to overcome this. I encouraged myself to realize and accept that no one is perfect; no one makes perfect grades or achieves every goal. As I began to open my eyes to how I was thinking, I became much less stressed and much more happier with who I was. I understand that there is a lesson to be taken away from every situation, whether it be a soccer game or a friendship. This realization had allowed me to grow as a person, friend, family member, athlete, student, and many more. By learning that my best is enough, I’ve become more confident in who I am. Being supportive of yourself is just as important as being supportive of those around
