The ultimate goal should be the success of others. A good leader doesn’t care about personal gain or accolades and achievements they can get, but the well being of their followers. A good leader is one who, not only speaks with words, but with actions as well. Attributes of a good leader entail a person who knows their strengths and weaknesses, so, when the time is necessary, they know when to lead and know when to back down.

Leadership is something that every collective society will need regardless of its make-up. I try to lead in the things I am able to. Now, another question arises. What makes a leader good? What is the importance of leading? A person that obtains effective leadership skills holds the power to motivate/influence others, organizing, dealing with mistakes and most importantly take full responsibility of decisions (Kent.ac.uk, 2015). Moreover, leadership skills being a part of PDP allows students to recognize their true potential in the classroom and compare if they have the same influence on people elsewhere.
For years, there have been many leadership ideas and theories which has been the source of intensive studies. The three major leadership ideas/theories that I have learned are the Behavioral Theory, the Contingency Theory, and the, Transactional Leadership Theory. The Behavioral theories of leadership focus on the behaviors of a leader. In this theory, a leader’s behavior is a gauge of their influences and as a result, is a good indicator of his or her leadership success.
There are many things that we can learn if we are a leader since leadership like education is also a continuing process of developing oneself, what I like best in practicing leadership is the ability to handle people because a leader is responsible for the welfare and development of his people and always accountable for every decisions made. Actually, in a short period of time that I handle people is a great achievement and memorable experience, handling people is not an easy duty. With this experience I honed my communication skills, how to interact with people, how to talk and listen to comments and suggestions of people and most of all how to weigh in the ideas in order to come up with the right decision.
