My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership is an important role in today’s society. According to dictionary.com leadership is “the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group”. But in my opinion I believe that leadership goes further than that. To me a person who shows leadership is a person with confidence and knowledge. A person who also seeks to be a leader needs to have direction. With leadership comes the thought of the right attitude, an outgoing personality and striving to be the best of one’s potential. Confidence and knowledge are two very important characteristics a leader must possess. Without confidence a person does not truly believe in one’s self. Henry Kissinger once said “The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been.” This is showing that there has to be some sort of direction on where to go because no one ever wants to stay in the same place but to move forward, in order to do that though there needs to be a person who knows where to lead these people. Knowing where to go is not only physical but also mental. A leader has to be mentally prepared on a destination so they are ready for what is going to happen. Attitude is a big part in deciding if a person is a leader or not, this is because if someone has a nasty attitude or is mean then no one else will take them seriously or want to follow them. But, if a person has a nice or determined attitude then others will more likely look up to them and follow by example. The right attitude though is not the only thing being looked at, an outgoing personality is also being looked at. This is because people want a leader who is willing to put him or herself out there in the world no matter the consequences. An outgoing attitude also shows that someone is willing to be outspoken, meaning they are not afraid to say what they want. Also a leader needs to be able to strive to be the best of their potential.
