My Leadership Philosophy

Since it was founded 1958, HOBY’s main goal has stayed the same: to inspire and develop young leaders. Those leaders will go on to change their community, change the world. I would like to be one of these leaders. I have dedicated myself to being a leader in this community and school, and would like to develop my skills and to become a better leader. I am leader already, I have participated in both S.A.F.E. (Substance abuse free environment), and Student Council for 2 years, and I volunteer in the school and community. Through being a leader, I have seen the challenging and rewarding aspects to it.

There are two main benefits to being a leader. One plus to being a leader is that knowing through all of the difficulties, all of the sacrifices you made a difference in the community. It feels extraordinary to know that something in this world is changed for the better. I have felt this when volunteering at a SAFE After-hours night. It was gratifying to see high school students having fun without the use of drugs or alcohol. I have also experienced this rewarding feeling when volunteering for a blood drive. When I saw all of the people donating blood to help others in need, it was splendid to know that I had helped pull it all together. I knew I had helped others. In addition, a plus of leadership is knowing that all of one’s hard-work has paid off. It is satisfying to know that you made a difference through your work. By stepping up to do something different and to step out of one’s comfort zone, one can cause a change for the better and that feels very rewarding. I felt this when I worked on a project for S.A.F.E. I stepped up to help inform classes about a project called the Stalls Project. I knew then that through my determination, I completed a project and that wouldn’t have happened if I had not stepped outside of my comfort zone to be a
