My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership is a term that I think can be defined in many ways and does not have a concrete definition. There are many pieces to determining what being a successful leader is and how one becomes a successful leader. Being successful in this sense is also something that I do not think is necessarily the generic sense of the word. Determining if you are a successful leader depends on who you are as a person, and that determines the kind of leader you become. What the main driving force you have and the way you interact with others lead to defining the term of being a successful leader. I grew up in a family where my grandfather started a road stand and ran it for 20 plus years, where my mom got her master’s in teaching to help teach special needs students, and a dad who took a 2-year business degree and became a CFO in a multi-million-dollar company. I think my foundation of what leadership is, and how to be a successful leader was solid. Throughout the semester I think I have been able to take that foundation and fine tune it in a way that fits me personally. I have been able to determine better what I like and what I do not like when it comes to leadership styles and finding areas that I need to improve on. One goal I have is to become a leader I want to work my way up through a company and prove that I deserve to be leader. I want to be able to learn from others that are above me and find what works and what does not. To take what I learned as a lower level employee, so that way when I become a leader I know exactly what needs to be changed. To learn what style of leadership works best with certain jobs and certain people. I think my main goal is to be able to express my ideas and feelings to my team members. Right now, I am very cut and dry, and I am not the greatest communicator. I get frustrated easily which is not a good quality to have as a leader that is in charge of a team. I learned that being a poor communicator can hinder the success of a business. Being able to communicate in an effective manor where I am not being mean to my employees, but instead building them up and helping them succeed. Like I stated earlier I think I have been provided with a solid foundation to become a successful leader in the future, but that does not mean that there is not room for improvement.
