My Leadership Philosophy

In this paper, I will be discussing my own leadership philosophy, along with the topics that were covered in the interview with the Commander. These topics are leadership philosophy, challenging of leadership, handling of issues, decision process, knowledge of the job, and handling conflicts.
My Leadership philosophy is described as involvement and supportive. What I mean by involvement is knowing how people are doing their jobs, how each one is doing in their day to day life and understanding how everyone is different and unique. It is important to understand the different ways to approach each individual as not everyone responds to the situation the same way when being questioned concerning an issue, their performance or being given praise. By promoting personal and professional growth and providing the necessary training, people are inclined to be more willing to make decisions as long as there is no micromanaging occurring.
The supportive side of my philosophy is being there to help when needed and being positive when things are not going right. As a leader, you must support your people even if you would have done it differently as long as the right thought process created the best decision for the situation. “In fact, most of these decisions involve “right versus right,” and the decision may be different …show more content…

I need to know specifically; did they have the right information and did they understand what was being asked when accomplishing the task and making the decision. Here is where a great opportunity presents itself to mentor a person to be a better employee and a better supervisor later on. “A good mentor is a person who “truly understands that mentoring is a way to develop and make a positive impact on people.”2 We need to understand that mentoring should be a daily event to prepare our people for the future of the Air
