All accomplished writer share a common trait, vast vocabularies with a word to fit every occasion. Stephen King, claims that all competent writers must read. He highlights vocabulary as one of the tools writers garner through reading. In On Writing, he said that every writer has a toolbox and in that toolbox are his/her tools for writing. On the top level where the most basic tools are stored, vocabulary is the topmost and there is one way to improve it; ”Put your vocabulary on the top shelf of your toolbox, and make no conscious effort to improve it.(You’ll be doing that as you read, of course)”, (King 117).
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
Reading my first essay written in this class, I have been able to see some flaws and things I would change about my writing now. My changes would mostly include grammatical and organizational modifications, as I still believe the core content of the paper is good and fulfilled the assignment. I consider myself to have grown as a writer throughout my time in this class. However, I recognize that my first essay was one of my higher paper grades in the class. In this paper, I will talk about the factors in the Reading Response essay that I would change and why I have grown as a writer.
Over these past six weeks my writing has improved in many different ways. In my 6-25-250 piece I really payed attention to detail and thoughtfully wrote one of the best pieces of writing that I have ever published. When I read it I could a picture was painted in my head of what was going on. I also spent a lot of out-of-class time perfecting my writing as much as I could. I improved on my grammar from the practice paragraphs that we have done and have used the bottom lessons on combining sentences in my writing.
The history of my literacy has been a long road of a frustration and learned lessons. As a child, I was a bit of a loner so reading and writing were the closest thing to a social life for me. The things that I bottled up inside came out through my writing and it became somewhat of a pass time for me. As long I could remember literacy as has been an important value for me in my life because from very young age I got express my true self without being judged by the outside. Even though in my later years I would deal with some heartaches and set back that lead me to give up on my love for reading.
I 've learned that reading and writing can take me any where I want it to go. I can explore my mind to go anywhere by imagination, by reading and writing. However,My reading and writing experience since I was a kid until now I still having a difficulty. When I was 3 years old my mom started me to learn how to read and write. At first, I 'm having a difficulty to read and write but my mom tried her best to taught me.
As I reflect on my growth as a writer in knowledge and artistry, I cannot help but notice how writing has become more enjoyable to me through poetry and has given me a newfound appreciation for literature and different writing styles. I have learned that writing starts first with simply being attentive to the world and the people one meets, because all writing starts with the shared ability among people to experience. Following this shared ability to experience the world, I began to understand through writing poetry in this class that literature is truly an art form in all respects, for the writing process is synonymous to creating a painting. A rough idea of what one will create is necessary, then an artist has to trust him or herself and
Writing in My Own Perspective My experience with writing is not that great. When I was a child in elementary school, my teacher asked us to write many essays in Arabic. I remember that when I went back home, I started to tell my mother about the assignment and that I did not want to write it. My mother began to search for information related to the topic. She always loved to help me with my essays.
Growth of Writing “The greatest part of a writer’s time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man will turn over half a library to make one book.” —Samuel Johnson The quote by a large contributor in English literature, Samuel Johnson, really resonates with me as a writer. Infact, my aunt, whom I respect very much, told me as a young girl that reading is hugely important.
With the instruction given to me over the past few months, I have grown as a writer and gained confidence in my writing skills. When I
I’ve had always a bit of struggle with style. Sometimes I think it’s sentence fluency while other times I think it’s word choice. Sometimes, I think I over think things out and it makes it harder for me to get my thoughts
The comments from my instructor, the online material, my research, the online writing center and comments from other students in the discussion boards have helped me so much to improve my writing skills. In the writing process, the step that I feel I have improved a lot is editing, as I am constantly reading my writings and editing them as I finish them, over and over again before I publish them. The steps in the writing process that I like the most are finding a topic in the Pre-writing step and Drafting. I like having a lot of ideas floating around and think about which idea is the best and the most exciting topic to talk about.
I want to easily start and end a story. Have better word choice and punctuation. I don’t want to be scared and worried every time I have a big writing piece for another class. I just want to overall be more confident in my writing. My expectations for myself is that I push myself out of my comfort zone for writing.
I think this is my biggest progress because I overcome my worry that I fear making mistakes. Even if I am not very good ,I believe as long as I try my best, my writing techniques will improve. There are many stories in this book
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
