My name is Robby Bennett. I am 14 years old, and am an eighth grader here at Belmont Ridge in the class of 2028. I have been here since sixth grade, and have never had an opportunity that has honored me to this extent. Even just the thought of getting the opportunity to walk across the stage at the induction ceremony, gives me butterflies. The National Junior Honor Society was created by a select number of principles that only a small majority possess. English, science, algebra; you name it, I am always a leader in the classroom. I try as hard as I can to be a respectful, responsible, and proactive student. I also strive to be a role model for others. But, it isn’t just in the classroom. I am also a scholar-athlete, playing baseball for the Belmont Ridge baseball team. Also, one fun fact about me is that I am a beekeeper! This spring will be the fourth time that I have had bees. But what does this have to do with leadership? Beekeeping has done wonders for me, because it gave me a chance to outreach with the Loudoun Beekeepers Association, where I am the youngest member. I use my leadership skills to help out at their events, as well as educating new and existing members on the subject. Also, I have noticed that these get-togethers and events have improved my social skills over the past few years. Having good citizenship means respecting personal freedoms, understanding the role of civic engagement, and having respect for democracy. This principle really stands out to me, because I have come to realize that a lot of people throughout the world don't have the same opportunities that young folks like me, have. For some, freedom is taken for granted. Personally, I don’t think I have ever taken it for granted, since being free is great because you can make your own decisions in life, which promotes diversity in thoughts and actions, in a society. This can also be displayed, by being engaged in civic activities, and standing up for yourself and others, as two examples.
