Nikola Tesla was born on January 7, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. When he was seven, his older brother, Dane (dah-nay), died during a riding accident, which traumatized the young tesla and made him start having “visions”. When he got older and went to college, Tesla studied math and physics at the Technical University of Graz, Austria. After that, he went to the University of Prague to study philosophy. When on a walk in 1882, he got the idea for a brushless AC motor, drawing the first blue prints in the sand of the path with a stick. History.com goes on to say “George Westinghouse also was Thomas Edison’s biggest competitor.” Tesla went to work for Westinghouse and was hired. History.com also says “Westinghouse also licensed some of Tesla’s patents and gave Tesla his own lab.
