Northwestern High School Irony

I began my freshman year at Northwestern High School with the intention to take all the courses necessary to graduate and enjoy my Senior Year. The irony could not be greater than from the moment I reflect on my actions the past four years. Indeed, I did take the courses necessary to graduate ;however, taking the necessary was not enough for me. I learned that I was determined and constantly pursuing challenges which resulted in improving my academic skills and general understanding of the world. School was not something I dreaded but found intriguing. I would stay up completing homework and studying before a test ,but the thought to drop the class was unfathomable. The challenge of learning in an advanced environment propelled me to study more and really try to understand what we learned. I enjoyed the challenge and faced it despite its complications. I learned to distinguish between a simple class and an actual challenging class that pushed me to analyze and think critically. Sophomore year came around and I took AP Spanish 5 and AP Government and Politics which sounded like a lot of work ,but I felt prepared. Predictably, I had to learn to time manage since I had to serious advanced classes. In addition, AP Government required a lot of my attention which drove me to learn new studying techniques. I began to study with a buddy, use flashcards, and review my class notes after class. I was determined to pass the AP Exam at the end of the Year and sure enough I earned a 5 for both exams. The intimidation both classes brought on the first to second month dissolved as I dealt with the complications head on. I didn’t just benefit academically however. I also applied what I learned in government to my real world by paying more attention to the news and world around me. At the end of the year, I had improved my study skills and expanded my knowledge solely because I was determined to do well and tackled the challenge
